Why those titles ?!?
No new art today but a question for all of you guys from USA, Great Britain and other english speaking countries: WHY THOSE STUPID MOVIE TITLES ?
In France, when an american (or english) movie is released, the distributors have 3 options for the title:
1- They give a french title, which can be a direct translation (Le roi lion for The lion king), an approximate translation (40 ans, toujours puceau for The 40 year old virgin, not so far) or give a completly different name (Rendez-vous l'été prochain for Jack goes boating, nothing in common).
2- They keep the original title (the best option, in my opinion).
3- They give a new name, but in english.
And this 3rd one is a wonderful nonsense stupidity.
I let you discover the exemples above, it speaks for itself. It seems that in France, we can only understand films with VERY simple english words like TRIP, VERY or BAD. I know that our average skills in english are not very high in France (and me too) but I'm not sure we are that dumb... It's perfectly ridiculous.
The funny thing to notice is that the english movie The boat that rocked, called in France Good morning england, has another name in USA: Pirate radio. I guess the french distributors are not the only ones who think their local audience is dumb...

Snow Girl: Step by step
Time to time, readers of my blog ask me how I work, so I've decided to make a simple step by step of my last illustration. I hope everything is clear, if you have questions I'll try to answer in the comments.
By the way, as you probably notice, I'm french and my english is not very good so sorry if I don't explain the proper way (and also my photoshop is in french.)
So, first of all, I only work in Photoshop. Time to time I make drawings on paper then scan them but all my last illustrations and designs were made with my wacom intuos and this last one with my all new Cintiq 21UX.
1. The drawing, with a simple home made brush, very rough.
2. I turn over the drawing and make a cleaner drawing.
3. I rebuild the tricky parts to be sure of the construction.
4. I make the final drawing with a clean line and I fix some parts (here the face).
5. I start the colors with the line above.
6. Every part (face, jacket, hair, etc) on a separated level.
7. The face.
8. cheeks and nose.
9. I add the lines and other details.
10. With the gradient tool, I make a subtle color effect.
11. I set the layer in screen mode and lower the opacity.
12. I start the background with the basic color.
13. I add the snow with a brush that looks like snow flakes.
14. A white gradiant to suggest the snow on the floor.
15. A quick shadow on the ground to set the character in space.
16. A quick skyline of Paris.
17. I add a layer of noise.
18. I lower the opacity and set it to color burn.
19. I had a paper texture layer that I colored in light blue before.
20. I set it to screen and lower the opacity.
21. I finally add my signature...
22. And voila !

Character Design for a canceled project...
During the first month of 2010 I've been working on a TV show project. I've made a lot of designs but it's canceled now so here are some of them... I'll probably post more later.

SPA Girl
Because of my last two weeks of vacation and my new job since june, I haven't been able to produce a lot of things for my blog...
So, here are few researches I've made for a website about salon and spa. I had to make few drawings of a sexy girl but, after changing their minds all the time, the client finally decided not to keep me for the job (fortunatly, the webmaster was pissed of be the client attitude and was kind enough to give me the money I deserve).
So here are few drawings I made, they are just the first rough.
